Waiting for more in Milldale

We drove up to Springfield, MA to pick up a shipment yesterday (4/18). It ended up being 5200 lbs., which was a little less than the estimate, but it's okay for a start. We drove back down to Milldale, CT since there weren't any truckstops near Springfield. Karen called our dispatcher to find out if they had anything else to add to this load, but he was still looking. So, in a way I hope we don't have to go back up northeast of here for our next load(s), since we've already started back this way. But, if it pays well, I guess we'll do it. We got some good exercise loading the truck yesterday- it was a nice medium length day. Karen got to do a lot of walking. Her little step gauge registered a total of 6725 steps, which is equal to 3.28 miles at 30 inches per step. You go, girl!

So today we had a chance to sleep in a little. The plan is to grab a bite here at the T/A truckstop and then re-park the truck, since there are more empty spaces now. I've been downloading podcasts like crazy. I downloaded a new Doctor Floyd episode, plus a couple of extra mp3 files that aren't listed on the website (I don't think they were, anyway). I've also been listening to the "Truckin' Tom" podcast. He seems to upload fresh stuff pretty regularly. It's kind of cool to hear from another truck driver who is also tech savvy. Hey, Tom, if you Google your own name and end up at this post, greetings to you! (Actually, I'll probably email you a link to this post.) We love your stuff. BTW, we found out you were in Carlisle on the 17th I think it was. We left Carlisle that evening to come out to Milldale. What a coincidence! Sorry we missed you. Well, I'm sure we'll meet up somewhere out here on the road. We delivered in Ephrata, so we can relate to your adventures trying to navigate a big rig through those narrow, winding, truck hostile areas. Our pickup in Springfield yesterday had it's moments, too. Amazingly, though, a Connecticut driver (4 wheeler) actually flashed us so we could move into the lane. I asked the helper we had picked up if this was normal for Conn. drivers and he said it wasn't- maybe the driver was a truck driver, too.

I'm still amazed by the amount of podcast material out there. There's humor, history, news, radio theater, and information on just about anything imaginable. I've just discovered a couple of podcasts that have some interesting electronic ambient music, so that's what I'm currently downloading. Well, it's almost 1:30 eastern time, so I think we'll munch. The food here is not too bad. Maybe I'll post some more a little later...
